The Québec government wished to offer special recognition to the role volunteers play in society. In 1992, with this in mind, it created the Dollard-Morin recreation and sports volunteering award. That year, the award paid special tribute posthumously to Mr. Morin, whose volunteer work was the reason for his name being used for this annual event. Since then, the Québec government has honoured many recipients.
Today, the Dollard-Morin recreation and sports volunteering award is given out in each of Québec’s administrative regions to a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution as an individual. It also pays homage to a municipality, organization or business for their support of volunteer work in recreation and sports. Finally, it pays homage to a volunteer in recreation and another in sports for their outstanding contribution on a provincial, national or international scale.
The Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport is responsible for this award.
