Municipal Merit Award

Prix Mérite municipal 2009.Since 1990, Mérite municipal prizes have been awarded once a year at the National Assembly to wrap up Municipality Week activities.

The Mérite municipal awards pay tribute to citizens who have helped to improve quality of life in their community through volunteer work or outstanding achievements that supported or continue to support municipal initiatives in providing quality services. They are recognized first by their municipality, which nominates them, and then by a jury.

The jury is composed of Quebecers whose involvement in municipal or community life is outstanding. They are named by the Ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire.

The individuals receive a trophy and their municipality, a commemorative plaque by way of public acknowledgement.

This year, in keeping with the times, a new prize has been added, the Municipalité en santé award, exclusively for municipalities.

This prize is awarded to a single municipality that has displayed creativity in a project aimed at fostering a healthy lifestyle for all its citizens.
